Kate's Website

Colin's lesson - 21/5/2010

Okay, a quick catch up because I've finished my website!!!!

Friday 16th April - I finished planning my webpage layout and design and started to create my site using dreamweaver. I created a website and named it so I knew where to find everything. I then created a background DIV, and in that I also created a header, left content, right content and footer DIV and made them relevant sizes. The header was 1000 x 50 pixels, the left content was 250 pixels wide, floated left and I also left the height so that it could stretch if it needed to. The right panel was 750 pixels wide to fill the rest of the background and floated right. The footer was also 1000 pixels wide and 50 pixels high. For each new DIV that I created I chose a bright colour so I could clearly see all the different sizes and they were all labelled accordingly.

Friday 23rd April - In this lesson I had to re-do my site, as I lost it on my memory stick. I created a new website with my name as the link and started to create the DIVs. I created a basic backgorund DIV that was 1000 pixels wide and we left the height so that it could expand when we put all our information in. I then created a Header DIV, a Left Content DIV, a Right Content DIV and a Footer DIV. I made the Navigation bar which had all the links to the other webpages, which we will link up to each page later on.

Friday 30th April - I continued creating the basic layout of the webpage, and I changed the sizes of some of the DIVs to make them how I wanted to look.

Friday 7th May - Today I did the majority of the webpage changes, to make it match the colour and font style that pur group wanted. I changed the style of the background to black, and then changed the background colour for all of the DIVs to white. I changed the font style to match the other pages in my group and we chose the font group Verdana, Ariel, Helvetica, Sans-serif and the colour was changed to code number A71016. This we kept throughout all of our pages to make it consistent. I then inserted the logo and the banner images which were created by Ian. He coied them onto my computer and then I inserted them into the corresponding DIVs. I also created the links menu for our group's pages, and put them into an unordered list. Once I had done that, I had to create a table for my content. So I inserted the table with 4 columns and and 21 rows. I then found the most up to date singles chart and started inputing the information in my table.

Friday 14th May - I did the finishing touches on my website, which was the content for my web page. Because I was doing the music charts, I had to have the latest charts to make my webpage up to date, so I had to change some of the content. Once I had finished the table, I had to create new style to make sure it matched the rest of my page. I changed the font colour to match the other fonts, and the background colour to white. Once I had done that I had to take the website where I got my information from and I put that in the footer. I also changed the style of the footer to match the rest of the page.

Friday 21st May - I had to add a picture to my page because I didn't have one, so I found a picture that was relevant to my webpage. To make it fit in to my website I had to change the layout of my page slightly, so I inserted another to DIVs into my footer. I moved the website that I used for the download chart into the left box, and then inserted the picture into the right DIV. I had to change the size of the picture becsuse it was 500 x 500 pixels and my box was 300 x 300 pixels. To do this I simply opened the picture in photoshop, and clicked Image and then Resize Image, and changed it to the size I want. I then simply inserted the new image into the DIV. When it was open in Dreamweaver it didn't look correct because the layout was not set out properly, but when I previewed the page in Safari it was correct. My webpage is finished!! All I have to do now is to link my page to all the other pages, which will be done next Friday when we all come together.

Colin Flint's lesson - 5th Feb 2010

A quick catch up on what we've done in our web design lessons:

15th January 2010 - In our first lesson with Colin, we started by looking at one good website and one bad website, and decided why they were good or bad. We looked at things like layout, colour scheme, text and images and whether the sites were user friendly or not. After we went through the sites, we started to design our own ideas for the website, looking at layout and colours.

22nd January 2010 - In our second lesson with Colin we started to create a layout by using photoshop. It was just a basic layout, just to give us an idea of how to create a site. We used markers and lines to create banners, buttons and image sections, and started to look at colours for the site. We then carried on designing the layout for our site, and started doing all the different pages with our site.
